our President

Meet the president

YMAU’s leader is dedicated to building and facilitating the conference’s fifth ever iteration, alongside the rest of the secretariat and is looking forward to meeting all the delegates.

  • Audrey Umurerwa Gatera is a rising senior in Pauli Murray College, majoring in Environmental Engineering with a certificate in French. She was born and raised from Kigali, Rwanda, where she attended the inaugural iteration of YMAU before beginning her studies at Yale. Since then, she has continued her involvement, most recently serving as the Director-General of Operations for YMAU IV . Now, as the Secretary-General of YMAU, she is excited to expand the conference’s impact and build a strong and diverse network of partnerships.

Outside of classes and YMAU, Audrey is a research assistant at the Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture in Professor David Kwabi’s lab, where she works on developing affordable redox flow cell batteries for grid-scale solar energy storage. She is also the co-founder of SL TBLX, a student venture incubated at Tsai CITY, where she leads efforts to transform water treatment sludge waste into compressed bricks and explore sustainable alternatives to traditional cement. In her free time, Audrey also enjoys dancing and is a proud member of Dzana, Yale’s Afrofusion dance team.

She looks forward to working with the entire team to build a memorable and impactful YMAU V. Feel free to contact her at president@yalemodelau.org with any questions or concerns in the meantime!
